Foreign Minister Wang Yi described Xi Jinping's trip as a "complete success," reinforcing the strength of China-Russia relations. The Chinese leader's official state visit focused on commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory Day celebrations in Moscow. Extensive discussions took place between Xi and Putin, culminating in the signing of a broad array of documents aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation, including a joint declaration concerning global strategic stability.
Wang stated in a press briefing on Saturday, “The visit looked back on history, looked to the future, inherited friendship, defended justice, and was a complete success.” He emphasized that the discussions reaffirmed that “China-Russia relations are as solid as a rock, that the results of the victory of the Second World War cannot be challenged, and that the world needs justice instead of hegemony.”
The talks, lasting nearly ten hours, resulted in the signing of over 20 cooperation documents, which Wang noted, “inject new strong momentum into the development of China-Russia relations.” He characterized the current state of affairs between the two nations as their “best period in history,” asserting that attempts to create divisions between China and Russia “can only be a pipe dream.”
Agreements were made to strengthen economic, trade, and energy cooperation, along with enhanced collaboration in high-tech sectors such as nuclear energy, aerospace, and artificial intelligence. Wang remarked that both Moscow and Beijing recognized the way they complement each other's economic advantages and highlighted the substantial potential for further development.
According to Chinese customs data, bilateral trade between Russia and China reached $245 billion last year. Putin pointed out that nearly all exchanges between the two nations are now conducted in rubles and yuan, shielding their trade from outside influences. In response to prevailing global changes, Putin expressed the need to maintain a steadfast and trusted friendship, stating, “it is important to remain trusted eternal friends in the spirit of seasoned friendship” during a joint press conference with Xi.
