Xi urges China and Vietnam to protect the stability of supply chains
Xi shared his thoughts during discussions with To Lam, the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, in Hanoi on Monday.

Xi, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made this statement during talks with To Lam, the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, in Hanoi.
Highlighting the commitment of both nations to open-up policies, Xi noted their active contributions to maintaining stable regional industrial and supply chains and promoting economic globalization.
As nations benefiting from economic globalization, Xi emphasized the importance of enhancing strategic alignment, collectively opposing unilateral aggression, and preserving the stability of the global free trade system and supply chains.
He remarked that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam. Over the decades, irrespective of changes in the international landscape, the two countries have consistently supported each other in the quest for national independence and liberation, progressed together in socialist development, and steadfastly pursued socialist modernization, establishing a notable example of solidarity and cooperation among socialist nations.
In light of the current volatile global environment, Xi reaffirmed that both China and Vietnam are dedicated to peaceful development and deepening friendly ties, thereby providing essential stability and certainty to the world.
During their discussions, Xi proposed six initiatives aimed at reinforcing the China-Vietnam community with a shared future.
He stressed the necessity of enhancing strategic mutual trust through regular communications between the leaders of both nations and called for strengthened security cooperation, especially in addressing cross-border crime, along with expanding both bilateral and multilateral law enforcement collaboration.
Xi also underscored the significance of enhancing high-quality cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure connectivity, including railways, highways, and smart ports, alongside advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. He expressed China's openness to welcoming more high-quality Vietnamese products and encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Vietnam, urging the creation of a more equitable and supportive business environment in Vietnam.
The Chinese leader also highlighted the importance of improving cultural, tourism, and healthcare collaboration.
Moreover, he called for closer multilateral cooperation to support the international system centered on the United Nations and to advocate for a multipolar world. Xi urged both countries to address maritime issues effectively, expand maritime collaboration, and strive for the swift finalization of the Code of Conduct for the South China Sea.
In response, To Lam noted that Xi's choice to visit Vietnam first on his overseas trip this year signifies the high value he places on China-Vietnam relations and his strong support for Vietnam.
Vietnam is prepared to enhance its coordination and cooperation with China in upholding multilateralism, committing to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, protecting international trade regulations, and adhering to agreements established between the two nations, all to contribute more to global peace and human development.
He further asserted that Vietnam is keen to collaborate with China to effectively manage maritime disputes and ensure stability in maritime areas.
Following their discussions, the two leaders oversaw the signing of 45 cooperation documents covering various sectors, including connectivity, artificial intelligence, customs inspection and quarantine, agricultural trade, culture and sports, public welfare, human resource development, and media collaboration.
Both parties also released a joint statement to advance their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and expedite the development of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic importance.
