PSG triumphs over Arsenal, setting up a UEFA Champions League final clash with Inter Milan
Paris Saint-Germain exhibited remarkable resilience on Wednesday, fending off wave after wave of attacks to secure a 2-1 victory over a spirited Arsenal, thus advancing to the UEFA Champions League final. This victory marks another opportunity...

In the early moments of the second leg of this semifinal clash, PSG found themselves struggling with ball possession—a hallmark of their play. However, they quickly adapted, relying on counterattacks and the prowess of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to progress with a 3-1 aggregate score.
This achievement sees PSG reach the final of Europe's premier club tournament for only the second time in history, the first being five years ago when they were runners-up. Notably, this accomplishment comes in the wake of superstar striker Kylian Mbappe's transfer to Real Madrid, a shift that has transformed the team's dynamics.
Instead of bringing in another superstar to fill the void left by Mbappe, the club has adopted a new strategy. This transition has enabled coach Luis Enrique to cultivate a rejuvenated, solid squad that is playing some of the finest football in Europe.
"I said from the first day that our goal was to work hard enough to be in a position to make history – and that remains our goal, to be the first to win the long-awaited trophy," Enrique stated. "This is a project that has evolved since last year, and I feel very comfortable here as a coach because I have the freedom and support from the president to build what we want, adapting to the market to put together a team that improves every day."
Conversely, Arsenal exited the competition with a sense of disappointment after failing to overcome the 1-0 deficit established in the first leg in London.
"It gives me so much pride, but at the same time I'm so upset, so annoyed that we didn't manage to do it," remarked Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. "Today I see how much the players want it, because they were in tears [at the end]."
PSG will have another chance at their first Champions League title when they face Inter Milan on May 31 in Munich.
"We believe in our coach and we believe in our players – in our talented, young, hungry players," said PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi. "They fight for the team, they die for the jersey, that's the most important, for the city, for the club. There's still one match to go."
The French side broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, capitalizing on a set piece after Arsenal's defense cleared a free kick. The ball fell to Fabian Ruiz, who launched a stunning half-volley into the net.
Achraf Hakimi added a second in the 72nd minute with a precisely executed finish, before Bukayo Saka managed to pull one back for Arsenal.
In their previous encounter in London, Arsenal had struggled early on, failing to match PSG's midfield intensity and ultimately losing 1-0.
Boosted by the return of midfielder Thomas Partey, Arsenal produced an impressive total of 61 attacks, dwarfing PSG’s 26.
Despite their early dominance, Arsenal could not convert their chances—Declan Rice missed a header and Gabriel Martinelli's shot was saved by Donnarumma.
Arsenal continued to press, with Martin Odegaard forcing another fine save from Donnarumma with a low drive from distance.
PSG, on the other hand, waited for counterattack opportunities. An opening arose in the 17th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, finding space on the left, unleashed a trademark shot that struck the post.
Another opportunity came for Arsenal after the hour mark, when Saka's curling shot looked destined for the top corner, only for Donnarumma to make a stunning parry.
PSG was awarded a penalty after a handball by Myles Lewis-Skelly, but Vitinha missed. However, they quickly doubled their lead, as Hakimi swept in the ball from an assist by substitute Ousmane Dembélé.
Arsenal persisted in their efforts and managed to score through Saka in the 76th minute, but it was insufficient to secure a comeback. PSG now moves on to their second final, hoping to surpass their previous attempt five years ago.
