White House to Assess Officials' Allegiance to Trump – WSJ
According to the Wall Street Journal, US federal workers will soon be assessed based on their loyalty to President Donald Trump. The report indicates that the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which oversees human resources for the federal government, will spearhead this evaluation initiative.

Memos from OPM Acting Director Chuck Ezell, reviewed by the WSJ, specify that high-ranking civil servants will be evaluated on their “faithful administration of the law and the president’s policies.” The documentation emphasizes that promoting Trump’s agenda will be deemed the “most critical element” in assessing the performance of these officials.

The new performance evaluation plan is anticipated to be implemented by US government agencies by the start of the fiscal year 2026.

The WSJ noted that while civil servants have previously been graded, the criteria included business acumen, leadership abilities, coalition-building skills, and work results. Under former President Joe Biden's Democratic administration, staffing policies heavily prioritized diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Critics claimed that DEI efforts often emphasized identity over merit, causing concerns about reduced standards and divisiveness. Prominent companies such as Walt Disney, JPMorgan Chase, Amazon, and Google have faced similar criticisms and legal pressures and have subsequently scaled back or eliminated their DEI programs.

Following his inauguration, Trump implemented multiple executive orders aimed at dismantling DEI initiatives, labeling them as “radical” within the federal government and among its contractors and grantees.

The WSJ also reported that OPM has begun approving new positions that various federal agencies are seeking to fill, suggesting an effort by the Trump administration to assert greater control over the hiring and firing of federal employees.

Furthermore, the report states that OPM will continue some downsizing efforts initiated by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Musk, who recently announced a reduction in his role overseeing the US Department of Government Efficiency, stated that he plans to redirect his focus toward his business endeavors. He noted that “major work” to establish DOGE has been completed but clarified that he will not be fully stepping away from agency responsibilities, as he intends to dedicate “a day or two per week on government matters.”
